In Korean, "Arisu" (아리수) means "big water" or "great water". It is a combination of "Ari" (아리), meaning "big" or "great", and "Su" (수), meaning "water". Historically, Arisu was an old name for the Han River in ancient Korea, specifically during the Goguryeo period. In Asian culture Water brings prosperity, life and nourishment.
